Usage and limits
How the usage meter works, what happens when you run out, and the limits you can hit.
The usage meter
The chip in the workspace header shows how much of your build usage you've used, as a percentage, like 40% used. It turns red from 90%. It reads Out of usage when it's all gone, and Add usage if your account has no build usage yet. Click it to open the Add usage panel.
Build usage comes with your membership. It's measured by how much work a build takes, so a big multi-part indicator uses more than a small change. The Lab only ever shows you the percentage.
What counts
- Counts: everything you send in the Assistant. New builds, revisions, answers to its questions.
- Doesn't count: input tweaks in settings, exporting code, publishing, forking, importing Pine and backtesting.
When you run out
When the meter reads Out of usage, new builds are refused with “You're out of usage — top up to keep building.” Everything else keeps working: your saved indicators, input tweaks, the chart, exports, publishing and backtests.
Top-ups
Top-ups aren't available everywhere yet. Click the meter to check. If the panel lists top-up options, pick one and checkout opens in a new tab; your meter updates a few seconds after you pay, and top-ups don't expire. If it says Top-ups are not available yet, check back later.
Limits you can hit
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| “You already have builds running — let them finish first.” | Only a few builds can run at once, and that includes ones running in the background or in another tab. Let one finish, or press Stop, then send again. |
| “Too many builds just now — give it a moment and try again.” | You sent a lot of builds in a short time. Wait a minute. |
| “You're publishing too fast — try again shortly.” | There's an hourly cap on publishing. It resets at the top of the hour. |
| “You're commenting too fast — try again shortly.” | There's an hourly cap on comments. It resets at the top of the hour. |
| “Daily code limit reached — you can fork …” | You've used today's forks. It resets at midnight UTC. See Community and publishing. |
