Placing trades

Market, limit and stop orders, stops and targets, sizing, and tagging your setups.

Market orders

Open Order in the right-hand rail. Buy (B) and Sell (S) fill at the market; Close position (C) closes your position, or cancels a working order when you're flat.

The floating Buy/Sell pill on the chart is always a market order at its own size. It ignores the ticket's type, stop and target. With a position or working order open, its SL and TP buttons let you drag or tap a level onto the chart, and × closes out.

Buying while long adds contracts at an averaged entry. Selling while long reduces, closes, or reverses only the contracts beyond your position. The banner says what happened, so an accidental second fill doesn't slip by.

Limit and stop entries

Set Type to Limit or Stop and enter the Limit price or Stop price. A buy limit has to sit below the market and a sell limit above it; one at or through the market is refused, and you use a stop to enter through a level instead. You can also right-click the chart for Buy limit or Buy stop at that price, or right-click a long or short position drawing to open a prefilled order.

You get one working order at a time, placed while flat. Working order contracts lets you resize it.

Stops, targets and break-even

  • Take profit and Stop loss are prices for the next order, and they clear once an order uses them. A level on the wrong side of your entry is refused by name, so you never go in unprotected by accident.
  • In a trade, drag the stop and target lines on the chart to move them.
  • Auto break-even at + N R moves your stop to entry once price reaches entry plus N times your initial risk. It needs a stop loss, and it never loosens a stop you've already tightened.

Sizing

  • Size: type it, use − and +, or tap a preset (1, 2, 3, 5, 10).
  • Risk $: with a stop set, contracts = risk ÷ (stop distance × $ per point), rounded down and never below one. Leave it empty to size by hand.
  • Execute as: on a market with a mini and micro pair (NQ and MNQ, ES and MES, YM and MYM, GC and MGC), trade the other size from the same chart, for example MNQ on an NQ chart. You have to be flat with no working order to switch.

The Place order window

Order on the floating shortcuts pill opens Place order. It sets side, type, contracts, Risk $, stop and target by price or by ticks, and break-even, and it shows Potential profit, Exact risk and Risk / reward before you commit. In a prop challenge, Restrict position size caps contracts at the account's max.

Tag labels the setup (for example FVG or breakout). It's the only place a setup tag is set, and the By setup table in the Stats panel groups your results by it. Place order sends it; Place & Journal sends it and saves the session in the same click. See Journaling your replay trades.
