Times and the trading day

How the Journal keeps the times you enter, how imports are converted, and which day a trade counts on.

Times are saved as you type them

Add trade says it under the time fields: “Times stay exactly as entered. Check the source timezone before saving.” Nothing is converted, so 09:35 saves and shows as 09:35 wherever you are.

Enter Eastern (New York) time. The with-or-against grading and the trading day below read your times as Eastern, so a trade logged in another zone can be graded at the wrong hour or land on the wrong session.

  • A blank entry time saves at 12:00, midday, so the trade stays on the right date.
  • With an exit price but no exit date or time, the exit takes the entry's, and the trade shows no time held.
  • When you read a screenshot, confirm the dates and times before you save. Blank ones weren't clearly visible.

CSV times

  • Times without an offset import as written. That includes Tradovate Performance exports.
  • A date column holding a full timestamp with an offset, like 2026-06-10T13:35:00Z or 2026-06-10T09:35:00-04:00, is converted to Eastern time. That only happens when the row has no separate time.
  • A row with a date but no time lands at 12:00. A row with no date at all is placed at the time you imported it.

Tradovate sync has its own rules; see Connecting Tradovate.

Which day a trade counts on

The Overview, the calendar, the Notebook, the weekly digest and your streak use the date you entered: the exit date, or the entry date while a trade is open.

Where the futures session matters, the Journal uses the trading day instead: 18:00 ET to 17:00 ET, named for the date it ends on. A trade at 19:30 on Monday belongs to Tuesday's session, and Sunday 18:00 opens Monday. Saturdays aren't folded into Monday. This day is used by the with-or-against grading, the patterns panel and Odds.

With or against the day's call

For NQ, ES and GC and their micros, Stats makes a daily bias call at 10:00 ET. Trades in the Trades list and the Backtest journal carry a chip: Retrospective · With call, Against call, No call (the day's call was neutral) or Not graded. Hover it to see the call and its record.

A trade is graded by its entry time. It isn't graded when it was opened before 10:00 ET, when it's another symbol, on a weekend, on a day with no call published, or when that symbol's call is retired. It's an after-the-fact comparison, not a signal. How the bias is calculated.
